Saltash Sailing Club has plenty to offer the yacht racing fraternity in the South West of England.
Situated on the banks of the river Tamar just south of the Tamar Bridge and the Brunel Railway Bridge the Club has a wide range of events to cater for all types of yacht racing.
The Sailing Club has many years of experience in running all sorts of races. We have a very experienced officer-of-the-day and line crews. Officers at the Club concerned with Yacht racing:
Mr Andy Green – Rear Commodore Sailing Mr Rob Davis – Yacht Captain. Mr David Oliver – Spring Series co-ordinator and Vice Commodore. Mrs Carole Jones – OOD and PPSA representative.
The Club holds handicap races for the following –
IRC racing for yachts with a current IRC certificate (obtainable from RORC). PY racing for yachts using the local handicapping system.
Detailed below are the races organised by Saltash Sailing Club:
- New Years Day Race – a short race in the river Tamar for the hardy racers
who like to use their boats in the winter months, followed by après-sail in the Clubhouse.
- The Thursday night series – 3 series of races within the river Tamar usually lasting 2 to 3 hours. Each series is 7 or 8 races with trophies awarded for places in each series and overall places. The first race starts 18.15hrs on 1st April. (Again followed by après-sail in the Clubhouse.)
- The Duchy Timber Spring series – a series of 4 races over courses in Plymouth sound on consecutive Saturdays starting 3rd April and finishing 24th April. (The après-sail in the Clubhouse includes live bands.)
The Plymouth to Fowey Race organised in conjunction with the Plym Yacht Club as part of the Port of Plymouth inshore points series (PIPS). This takes place over the weekend of 5-6 June.
- The Saltash Sailing Club/Tamar River Sailing Club Combined Yacht Regatta. – a series of races over a weekend, 2 – 4 July. Full details to be confirmed.
- The Saltash Sailing Club Autumn Series – a series of races run on a Sunday mornings from September to October within the Tamar river.
